Dan's Recommendations on Local and State Ballot Propositions



San Francisco Ballot Propositions

A - YES - Affordable Housing Bond measure - most important measure on the local ballot this year! Provides funds for supportive housing, lower-income rental housing, and moderate-income assistance for new home buyers.

B - Yes - Historical Preservation Bond measure

C - no recommendation

D - YES - Important Updating of the City Charter - includes allowing the Dept. of the Environment to analyze and make environmental recommendations on land use and planning impacts/proposals.

E - Yes - Modest modification of Police/Fire survivor benefits

F - YES - Measure to allow all parents of public school children the legal right to vote in local school board elections

G - YES - Could allow San Franciscans the opportunity to take advantage of city group health plans

H - No - Naming rights should be amended to require that only socially and environmentally responsible companies are eligible for this privilege. A 'yes' vote would cause the Rec and Park Department to lose millions of dollars.

I - Yes - Would require Economic Analysis of local Legislative Proposals

J - Yes - Allows for a 1/4 cent increase in sales tax in order to avoid drastic cuts in key local programs (such as public health services)

K - Yes - Creates temporary Gross Receipts Tax on businesses - exempts smallest businesses (under $500,000 in gross revenue). Needed to avoid major cuts in key local programs (including our public health system)

L - No - Takes millions of general fund money and spends it on a low priority issue.

M - removed from ballot

N - Yes - Policy Statement Against the war in Iraq

O - YES - Policy Statement indicating priorities for spending the new 1/4 cent sales tax (if approved by voters). Focuses on seniors, disabled, children, homeless families, and vital trauma services.

AA - Yes - BART Earthquake Safety bond measure
